What Do Teeth Look Like After Braces?

Having an attractive smile is such a plus. It is so important that some people are referred to as having a million-dollar smile. This means that their smile is so perfect and attractive that they are basically able to get whatever they want just by flashing their pearly whites. Some people have perfect teeth as a result of genetics. However, most people will need some sort of corrective treatment to get their teeth straight. The most common way to straighten crooked teeth is to use braces.

The very first question that most people ask when they get their braces put on is, when will I be able to get these things off? They are also concerned about how their teeth will look once the procedure is finished. This is a reasonable concern since wearing braces will require months of time and money.

Most patients will know in advance when their braces are going to be removed. It is usually during an adjustment that our orthodontist will tell you that this is the last adjustment and that your braces will be removed during the next visit.

You might feel pressure as our orthodontist takes your braces off, but you’re not going to feel much discomfort. The orthodontist will remove the brackets. Then, a cleaner is used to get all the glue off your teeth. Next, a mold of your teeth will be made for your new retainer.

The final appearance of your teeth is going to vary depending on how well you took care of them when you had the braces on. If you did a good job brushing your teeth and following the indications of our orthodontist, your teeth will look perfect. However, if you did not properly brush and clean your teeth, you might have some plaque and tartar marks, or some “white scars.”

That being said, your teeth should look straighter, should be evenly spaced and any issue you had with an overbite or an under bite should have been addressed. Some mistakenly think that once they get their braces off, their frequent visits to the orthodontist are done. This is not necessarily the case. As mentioned previously, once your braces are off, you will need to have a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position.

While the care you will need to give your teeth after braces is not as strenuous as when you were wearing your braces, you will still need to be careful with them. It is recommended that you wait a few months before whitening your teeth because the newly exposed enamel may be sensitive. You may also have some slight gum sensitivity, but this will dissipate over time.
