Protect Your Child’s Smile with Teen Braces

The American Dental Association suggests “early dental treatment for your teen will have a positive impact on their adult smile.” In fact, teen braces used to correct their teeth in the early stages can help them avoid excessive dental visits and huge costs in the future. In an appearance-driven society, more parents are insistent about correcting any dental irregularities their teen may be facing. Teens are also becoming more proactive about seeing a dentist. But why are teen braces becoming more popular? Many teens and adults are suffering with dental issues that involve corrective repair and braces are an effective correction solution.
How Teen Braces Work
A dental professional will assess your teen’s smile and make a recommendation for braces. Today, parents have the option of choosing Invisalign® over traditional metal braces. Invisalign® typically requires less follow-up visits. Your teen will be fitted for a series of trays that resemble plastic and they’re made uniquely for their teeth. Each tray will be slightly different to the tray before, and their teeth will move up to 25 per cent with each tray. Your teen will begin to see results within 2 to 3 months (results vary per person), but the end result may take up to 12 months.
There will likely be some discomfort associated with Invisalign®. However, it’s far less painful when compared to metal braces. Your teen can expect the discomfort to subside as they continue to use and swap out their aligners. Metal braces work faster at correcting your teen’s smile, but Invisalign® provides a less invasive approach with an invisible solution for dental irregularities. For the best results, your teen should wear their aligner at least 22 hours each day. A severe dental case may require metal braces, but our orthodontist will help you decide on the best corrective solution. The goal is to help your teen achieve a straighter smile with a less evasive dental treatment.
