If your teenager has been struggling with misaligned teeth, then it is time to start thinking about permanent solutions. Invisalign Teen® is one of the most advanced treatment systems for younger patients who have gaps between their teeth, teeth in the wrong position, an overcrowded smile or most any other forms of malocclusion. In as little as 12 months, these devices will allow your child to once again smile with confidence.
What is Invisalign Teen®?
Invisalign® aligners are clear polymer trays that are worn on the upper and lower teeth. The goal of these aligners is identical to traditional metal braces. Over the course of one or more years, the trays will guide the teen’s teeth into the correct position. While the technology is very similar, there are a few key differences between traditional Invisalign® aligners and Invisalign Teen®.
Most teenagers still have growing teeth when they first begin using Invisalign® aligners. Invisalign Teen® adds extra space for the growing teeth so they are not pushed down or forced into the wrong position. Due to the active lifestyle of teenagers, this particular system also provides up to six replacement trays if the teenager destroys or loses their trays. Finally, Invisalign Teen® has “power ridges” that help to move the roots of each tooth into the correct position as the layout of the patient’s mouth continues to change.
Benefits of Invisalign® Aligners
Anyone who has ever worn metal braces for any period of time knows just how unsightly and uncomfortable they can be. While they are effective, many patients are unhappy with how visible they and how long it takes to get used to them. Invisalign Teen® eliminates all of these issues. Instead of metal and composite braces, these aligners are made of clear plastic. Once placed over the teeth, they are almost completely visible.
Your teen will also have the ability to take out the trays whenever they would like to. This includes sitting down for a meal, brushing and flossing. Due to the fact that new aligners will arrive at your door every two weeks, you will not have to schedule ongoing appointments to have braces tightened or adjusted.
How Does the Process Work?
In order to keep your child’s treatment on track, they must wear their aligners for at least 20 hours a day. Teenagers who are not able to do this might not be the best candidates for Invisalign Teen®. Your child must also be dedicated to maintaining impeccable oral hygiene habits. The trays are relatively maintenance-free when compared to braces, but they must still be cleaned regularly.
