Ceramic Braces Stain-Fighting Tips

Many patients rave about ceramic braces because they are clear, which makes them less noticeable to others, and extremely effective at improving your smile.

Still, staining remains a concern for many patients.

At Grace & Bowman Orthodontics in Fort Walton Beach and Niceville, we offer patients a variety of braces to straighten their teeth, improve their smiles, and bolster their self-esteem and confidence. To learn more about the treatments available at Grace & Bowman, contact us today.

Ceramic braces are designed to stain less than other types of braces. That’s because ceramic braces do not include the main part which causes other types of braces to stain – ligatures.

Staining will be less of a concern if you wear self-litigating braces.

We understand that anyone who wears braces at some point will be concerned about possible temporary problems that braces can bring as they do their job of making your teeth more attractive and healthier.

Here are some suggestions that should help ease concerns about staining your ceramic braces:

  • Avoid these foods: Curry, mustard, and foods that are tomato-based are often the cause of staining. If you make efforts to limit eating these foods, you will likely eliminate the risk of minor staining.
  • After You Eat, Brush: Make it a point to brush right after you eat. This will stop food from settling in your mouth and on your teeth and braces, which often leads to staining.
  • Rinse with Mouthwash: Brushing your teeth after snacks and meals is essential, but don’t forget to rinse with mouthwash as well. Have a portable bottle of mouthwash handy in your bag. If you can’t brush right after you’re done eating, you can still rinse with mouthwash to remove food particles from your mouth.
  • Floss: Flossing is a great habit to follow. It helps prevent staining between your teeth. It’s easy for food particles to become stuck in between your teeth. That means daily flossing is essential to ensuring that your teeth and gums stay healthy and stain-free as your orthodontic care moves forward.

Brushing, rinsing and flossing several times per day can seem to be time consuming, and frankly, can be annoying.

But if you make the effort to make these simple tasks part of your daily routine, the process will become second nature!
